Here you’ll find clear, compassionate answers to common questions
FAQs
From safeguarding your pet’s ashes and booking appointments to selecting keepsakes and arranging private, on-site euthanasia, these FAQs offer detailed, practical guidance, reassurance, and personalised support
Q. How can I be reassured that the ashes I receive are my pet’s?
A. This is without a doubt the biggest concern any pet owner has and I completely understand how important it s for me to reassure you. Every pet is given a discreet ID tag that stays with them from the moment they arrive, through cremation, right up until their ashes are prepared for return. They are never separated from it. It is a quiet promise, backed by a clear system, so you can be sure the ashes you receive are always and only those of your beloved companion. I only offer individual cremation.
Q. How do I book an appointment with you?
A. I can be reached by phone, email, or through the contact form on this website. For reasons of dignity and privacy, visits are strictly by appointment only. This way, you can be sure the time and space are yours alone.
Q. How do I find you?
A. Oliver’s Highland Pet Crematorium is based at Alcaig Farmhouse & Steading, near Conon Bridge on the Black Isle. You’ll find a Google Maps drop pin and a What3words link at the bottom of this website to guide you straight to the door.
Q. How do I choose an urn or keepsake?
A. I work with Highland artisans to offer a range of handcrafted urns, pouches, and keepsakes. Some families prefer something simple, while others choose something more personal. I’ll gently guide you through the options, but there’s never any pressure.
Q. What are the benefits of choosing on-site euthanasia with you?
A. The Pod offers something very special – a beautiful, private space set in the peaceful, idyllic surroundings of the Black Isle. It has been carefully designed to remove the stresses and triggers that can come with a traditional veterinary setting: there are no waiting rooms, no other pets, and no unfamiliar smells. Just calm, quiet, and dignity.
There is ample off-street parking and plenty of space inside if you wish to bring family or close friends for support. The Pod is also designed with wide sliding doors and ramps, so even larger pets can be brought in with ease and respect. At the touch of a button, remote-controlled blinds provide complete privacy, allowing the focus to remain entirely on you and your companion.
When the time comes, euthanasia is carried out here by a kind and compassionate local vet with whom I work very closely. Once your pet has gently slipped away, they are lovingly carried through for cremation – all under the same roof, without any disruption.
We work seamlessly together to provide the most dignified, caring service we can. Everything – from the setting, to the way your pet is cared for afterwards – is designed to make this final act of love as calm, private, and beautiful as possible.
Q. Do you offer collection and return?
A. Yes. I offer collection and return and the pricing structure can be found under the “Services” section on this website. For bespoke collections further afield, the cost is based on £1 per mile. Payment must be made before travel is arranged.
Looking ahead, as I develop closer working relationships with veterinary practices across the Highlands, my aim is to make this service more efficient and cost-effective for everyone. For one-off, dedicated journeys to collect your pet, however, the cost is simply based on mileage.
Q. Can I visit beforehand?
A. Yes, visits can be arranged by appointment, and people may find this really helpful. It’s a chance to see the space, meet me, and ask any questions you might have. It also gives you time to think about things like whether you’d prefer an urn or a scatter tube, or whatever feels right for your pet’s final resting place.
By making these decisions in advance, you can feel reassured that, when the time comes, your focus can be entirely on saying goodbye. If visiting in person isn’t possible for you, I’m more than happy to talk things through by phone, email or a zoom call instead.
Q. Can you help with larger pets?
A. Yes. I can accommodate all sizes of pets including very large dogs.
